Birthday Cards

The sending of birthday cards is a relatively new tradition and it is believed to have begun in England around 100 years ago.

Originally well wishers would visit a friend on their birthday to greet them personally but if a visit was not possible greeting cards would be sent as an apology.

This tradition evolved into the one we know today where birthday cards are sent or given whether the well wisher will see the celebrant or not.
